New Californian Fan Film Announced, Volunteers Requested

The following is an announcement from B3 Films, sent to STFFN by e-mail:

New Southern California Fan Film!

A couple of us are putting together a Star Trek fan film into production in May. It's going to be a post-Nemesis storyline following Riker on the Titan.

We're hoping to find local fans with costumes that would like to help out and be apart of it.

We'll need 1-2 Romulans with preferably Nemesis-style costumes. Or TNG style.

We'd love to find at least three people with full Klingon attire ready for combat.

The shoot will be planned for 1-2 days over a weekend. It will just be the opening teaser scene for the pilot. Once edited, it will be between 5-10 minutes in length.

Anyone around Los Angeles willing to help? We would love to see costume pics sent to b3films@aol.com

Dark Armada Posts New Video Greet

Star Trek: Dark Armada recently added a new video greet to their website, adding to their collection of video greets from Star Trek actors such as John De Lancie, Dwight Schultz, and Rene Auberjonois. This newest addition features Robin Curtis, who is known to Star Trek fans for her role of Saavik in Star Trek III: The Search for Spock and Star Trek IV: The Voyage Home.

Farragut Announces Animated Episodes

Yesterday, Starship Farragut announced that it will release two animated episodes, which will be produced in a similar style to Star Trek: The Animated Series. From the website:

"The two episodes chronicle the adventures of the U.S.S. Farragut, commanded by John T. Carter, and take place during what would have been fourth season of Star Trek. The U.S.S Farragut is a sister ship to the legendary Enterprise commanded by James T. Kirk. Episode one, penned by Michael Struck and Jack Treviño (co-writer of two Deep Space Nine episodes), is entitled 'The Needs of the Many.' The second episode, 'Power Source,' was written by Thomas J. Scott, an accomplished writer and president of Magique Productions, LTD."

The release schedules for these episodes have yet to be announced.

Diplomatic Relations Releases First Episode: "Rapprochment"

Star Trek: Diplomatic Relations released their inaugural episode, entitled "Rapprochment," yesterday. The new audio series tells the stories of the United Federation of Planets Diplomatic Corps, who "pick up where Starfleet leave[s] off." The summary for the episode says, "A recent Federation member planet gets special attention from high ranking Starfleet and Diplomatic Corps personnel. Why does it warrant this high powered interest and what legacy has Ferengi colonisation left?"

Diplomatic Relations is currently recording their second episode, "Agrément." As of this posting, no release date for this new episode has been scheduled.

Roddenberry.com to Host Exclusive Phase II Premiere

From April 10th through April 28th, Roddenberry.com will allow Star Trek: Phase II fans to enter for a chance to watch "To Serve All My Days: A Night in 1969" before the general release. Out of all of the entries, 500 will be give access to the new episode, 100 announced each day from April 22nd through April 27th. "To Serve All My Days" was originally aired on November 23rd, 2006 and stars Walter Koenig, returning to his role as Pavel Chekov. According to the announcement, "This special edition episode . . . features updated visual effects, incorporates original series music, consistent title sequences, and has added vintage commercials for that authentic feel. It will appear just as it might had it aired on a night in 1969."

The general release date for "To Serve All My Days: A Night in 1969" has not yet been announced.

Defiant Releases "The Far and Wondrous Distance, Part 1"

Yesterday, the audio drama series Star Trek: Defiant released their 23rd episode, "The Far and Wondrous Distance, Part 1." This new episode follows their last venture, "Shepherd Moons , Part 3," which was released on March 7th. In this new installment, "Captain Bridges and Gul Otek broker a deal and an uneasy alliance as Brel tries to talk Emeras out of her course of action. Keahi plans her rescue mission, and there's a shakeup in the ranks of the Romulans!" Their next episode, which is the second part of this arc, is slated to be released on May 7th.

Excelsior Releases "Wildfire"

Star Trek: Excelsior recently released their fourth episode, entitled "Wildfire." This new installment is the fourth in the five-part arc The Excelsior Returns. Here is the summary from Excelsior's website:

"With Captain Cortez unconscious and a mysterious disease sweeping through the ship, passing right through quarantine, Captain Dovan takes the Excelsior back to Valandria to have it out with the leadership. In the meantime, civil war has broken out on Valandria as a result of Sorid-Gee's attempted coup, and Chief Engineer Lorhrok's attempts to get information out of the Oracle hologram go badly awry. "

Lexington to Produce "Fool's Paradise;" Pilot in Post-Production

In addition to their pilot episode "All in the Appearances," which is currently in post-production, Star Trek: Lexington announced that they have also started pre-production on their second episode, "Fool's Paradise." The Lexington website offers a summary of this new episode, which reads, "The U.S.S. Lexington picks up alien survivors from a ship which sent out what is presumed to be a distress call. However, not all as it seems as their new passengers behave badly and endanger the Lexington crew!"

No release date for "All in the Appearances" or "Fool's Paradise" have been announced yet, but information on planned Lexington episodes can be found here.

Intrepid on TrekSpace

Star Trek: Intrepid now has a place in TrekSpace, a social networking site for Star Trek fans, similar to MySpace or Facebook. You can find Intrepid's TrekSpace profile here.

Odyssey Releases "Vile Gods" Preview

Star Trek: Odyssey has released a preview for its fourth episode, entitled "Vile Gods." In this new episode, "T'Lorra has to decide if Stadi should be removed from her post or trusted to implement a rescue plan that could ruin their alliance with the Kelvans" (hiddenfrontier.com).

Hidden Frontier Announces Federation One

Rob Caves, Executive Producer of Star Trek: Hidden Frontier and its affiliates, announced yesterday that Hidden Frontier has a new fan film in the works. It is called Star Trek: Federation One, and according to the website:

"Star Trek: Federation One will be a four-part mini-series focusing on the President of the United Federation of Planets and their entourage aboard the Federation's diplomatic flagship, Federation One. 'Operation: Beta Shield' will serve as a prelude episode to this series setting up some of the cast and situations the show will follow."

Caves also announced that Hidden Frontier plans to unveil a new science-fiction project next year.

Trinity Releases Sneak Peek

Trinity has announced that they will be releasing a sneak peek of their first webisode, "Midgard," by Monday, March 31st to their site members. "Midgard" is the first of five webisodes that make up the first installment of the series, "Prelude," which is in turn a prologue for the the Trinity story. According to the website, "'Midgard' is the first Webisode and introduces us to the Preserver Obelisk which plays a pivotal role in the 3 main Trinity features (Revelation, Rumination and Reckoning), it also gives us our first glimpse of Project Midgard, which is an organisation within the Federation that plays a major part in our story."

If you have reached this blog, I assume that you too are very interested in fan films or tribute films that are dedicated to the Star Trek universe. I definitely am. However, I have often been frustrated with the fact that, until now, there wasn't a single website that offered a comprehensive list of Star Trek fan films, their release dates, and etc. After all, we have TrekToday, which compiles news of Star Trek in general, and we have Memory Alpha, which holds all of the information on everything that is Star Trek canon, why not have a place where all of the news on current fan film productions is easily accessible?

Though I am not currently affiliated with any fan film productions, I would like to be able to provide this service. This means that whether you work on a fan film (and would like to get the word out) or are just a fan (and wish to receive frequent updates), your life just got a whole lot easier. Lost Frontier Releases "A Legend Falls"

Star Trek: Lost Frontier released its eighth installment, "A Legend Falls," on March 26th, following the previous episode, "Resistance." In this episode, one of the crew is murdered by a deadly assassin while the Enterprise is under repairs.

The Helena Chronicles Releases "Obsession"

The Star Trek: Hidden Fontier spin-off Star Trek: The Helena Chronicles released a new episode on March 22nd. The second installment in the series, entitled "Obsession," follows the pilot episode "Sanctuary Lost." This new series details the adventures of the U.S.S. Helena, which is exploring new territory in the Briar Patch following the events that happened in Hidden Frontier. According to the website, "Loyalties and friendships are tested to breaking point when a rift forms between the command staff aboard Helena. But that's the least of their worries."

The Expedition Releases "Departure" Trailer

On March 18th, Star Trek: The Expedition released a preview for its pilot episode "Departure." The announcement, located here, says that this episode details the events that happen after a rift is discovered that allows travel between the Alpha and Delta quadrants.

Lexington Releases Two Trailers

Starship Lexington now has two trailers available for immediate download, according to the announcement located here. The trailers originally premiered on March 15th at OmegaCon in Birmingham, Alabama. The first trailer introduces the upcoming episode "All in the Appearances," while the second introduces the characters and actors appearing in the episode. "All in the Appearances" is the series pilot for Lexington, and the release date is to be announced.

Odyssey Releases "The Lotus Eaters"

On March 4th, Star Trek: Odyssey released its third episode, which is entitled "The Lotus Eaters." Odyssey is a spin-off of Star Trek: Hidden Frontier, and centers around the crew of the U.S.S. Odyssey, which is on a mission to stop invaders from the Andromeda Galaxy. This new episode follows the second installment, "The Wine Dark Sea," and according to the website, "The Archien's relentless pursuit of the U.S.S. Odyssey is taking its toll and Ro is having to deal with serious differences of opinion amongst his senior staff. Starfleet ideals win out over Romulan practicality as a Starfleet distress signal is detected and Odyssey is steered back into mortal danger to prevent the Archiens from committing genocide. The Archien's internal power struggles escalate as an arrest warrant is issued citing damning evidence against the target. Whose name is on the warrant and what evidence has been found?"

Excalibur Back in Business

After many hardships, including the destruction of their sets and an ensuing legal battle, Star Trek: Excalibur announced on February 29th that they are now ready to resume pre-production. In addition to completing their pilot script, Excalibur announced that it is also accepting story submissions and will soon be casting and re-casting roles. New Voyages Changes Name to Phase II

On February 16th, Star Trek: New Voyages announced that it would be changing its name to Star Trek: Phase II. Here is a quote from the announcement, which you will find in its entirety here:

"Make no mistake about it, this is a new beginning for our production. This will be the next step in our effort to provide the quality show fans have come to expect, with commitment and dedication to keeping the original series look and feel that fans have come to enjoy, [a]s before, we will strive to involve familiar faces from Star Trek’s 40-year legacy in our episodes, as well as actors from other classic SciFi shows when we can. You will see the changes taking place over the next few weeks, but you will really appreciate the changes when we release our future episodes.”
